The Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center is
Proud to Present the Release of:
The Oakeside Memory Project
Made possible through a 2020 Essex County Local History Grant from the Essex County Division of Cultural Affairs, the Oakeside Memory Project was launched in 2020 to capture the history of the Oakes Mansion and Grounds through the memories and research of members of the Oakes family. The granddaughter of David and Jean Doswell Oakes, Pamela (Oakes) Felton, generously donated her time for an hour long interview with Mark Szep of DiscoverURhistory, a local genealogy and house history research firm.
This wonderful video provides an exclusive first-hand account of the history and home of the Oakes family, one of the leading Bloomfield families with a legacy of dedication and service to the Township of Bloomfield. The release of the Oakeside Memory Project is also in honor of the Oakes Mansion which celebrates its 125 anniversary, having been built in 1895 from plans from noted New Jersey architect Charles Granville Jones.
